1. Visit a compatible website, like YouTube, and copy the URL (website address) to video you like. Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJWS6qyy7bw (the CBC interview with the jerk known as Billy Bob Thorton).

2.Launch YouTubeDownloader if it’s not already open and simply wave the mouse cursor over the small window and you’ll see the copied URL appear in the window.

3. Click the small icon of folder (on the right hand side) and select where you want all downloads to go (e.g. C:\Downloads). You only need to do this once.

4. With the words “Download video from YouTube” selected, click OK and the .FLV video file will begin to download to your PC. You can double click the file to watch it on your PC.

5. To convert this FLV video to another file — such as AVI, MOV, WMV or MP4, click “Convert video (previously downloaded) from file” from within YouTubeDownloader and select what file to convert it to.

6. Now you’ll see animated gears churning as your video is being converted and it’ll appear in the same folder as the FLV file. Now copy it wherever you like.

get the newest version of realplayer, they have a download option for videos then you can use the program to convert the file to whatever you want and if i remember right they have a button thats says “copy to apple ipod” before i do that i like to take the music from the realplayer folder it downloaded to and put it in my itunes folder, or under options in realplayer make sure that you have the appropriate music folder selected so that afters its converted the file will go to that folder. this will convert video to video and u can also make videos mp3′s using realplayer.

MPEG-4 Part 14 or MP4 file format, formally ISO/IEC 14496-14:2003, is a multimedia container format standard specified as a part of MPEG-4. It is most commonly used to store digital video and digital audio streams, especially those defined by MPEG, but can also be used to store other data such as subtitles and still images. Like most modern container formats, MPEG-4 Part 14 allows streaming over the Internet. A separate hint track is used to include streaming information in the file. The official filename extension for MPEG-4 Part 14 files is .mp4, thus the container format is often referred to simply as MP4.

Why MP4?

Most mobile devices are MP4 format compatible, MP4 is widely used in digital video. It’s a universal format for video sharing.

Most modern media players can play MP4 formats, including Windows Media Player, QuickTime, RealOne and built-in media players on mobile devices and smartphone like iPhone, Apple TV, Android, BlackBerry and Windows Phone.

Compared to MP4, FLV format is poor-supported. Most media players don’t support this format, Windows Media Player on Windows 7 even don’t know how to play FLV file, let alone media players on iPhone, iPad and other mobile devices.

BUT, almost all videos on YouTube and other online video sites are FLV format, that’s the REAL problem! We just can download these FLV from YouTube and other video sites, but we can NOT play them, that sucks!

Now, FLV lives in our life, we use it without even realizing it exists, but the biggest problem is, there is NOT a native FLV player on Windows/Mac computer and our mobile devices like iPad, iPhone, iPod, Android and BlackBerry.

So we really need to convert FLV to MP4 for playback on mobile devices and smart phones.
