Shortened Zambelli Fireworks Video for Flickr

This is still among my first attempts to learn how to use a cell phone video camera. The video came out a few seconds too long for Flickr, so I used the YouTube editor to shorten it & then downloaded it from there. It cut the megabytes down considerably, so the quality it probably not as good as the original at youtu.be/400debdoRew but still not bad.

About the video: It was recorded at Paroquet Springs Conference Center in Shepherdsville, Kentucky on July 4th, 2011. The Zambelli display was a shorter form of what we get each year during the Kentucky Derby Festival that precedes the actual Derby event, and it’s always a beautiful fireworks display.

The staircase – long since ripped out by vandals – used to be suspended from these metal cables.

The North Shore Yacht Club at the Salton Sea is an historically significant–not to mention architecturally significant–part of California’s legacy. The North Shore Yacht club was the whimsical design of noted architect Albert Frey, who just happened to be a resident of the Coachella Valley. Completed in 1958 by developers Ray Ryan and Trav Rogers, North Shore Beach Yacht Club was one of the largest marinas in Southern California and carried a price tag of million. Celebrities like The Beach Boys, Jerry Lewis, and the Marx Brothers partied there and / or docked boats at the marina.

The Salton Sea was once a popular place for boating, swimming, fishing, etc., but an increase in the salt level of the water caused large numbers of fish to die and the water became foul. This, in addition to a couple of hurricanes in the 1970′s, caused the communities surrounding the sea to deteriorate.

The Yacht Club is in the process of a restoration and renovation. As anyone who has ventured inside recently has noticed, the old asbestos floor and ceiling tiles – as well as the old drywall – have been removed. The East Valley Historical Society and the county (Riverside?) have .5 million in funding to complete the renovation. The building was actually intact as recently as the early 1990′s before it was boarded up and eventually fell victim to scrappers and vandals. The building is otherwise structurally sound, however. When the renovation is complete, the building will reopen as a museum and community center.

this pic is quite an old one, more than a year i should say, back when things were alot diff and easy!!! nd yes back when i had my car(may her soul rest in peace haha)
it was one of those crappy but yet very nice nd beautiful days, me nd a cousin of mine drove around almost all that afternoon just kinda like site seeing!!LOL!!was goin thru my old photobucket account and found it in there!!! nd i even had short hair nd my ears were not peirced yet!!!!

Angela Davis Taps Ghe20 Gothik’s Venus X as a Guest Lecturer

Earlier this morning, legendary political activist and celebrated scholar Angela Davis announced an upcoming two-day conference entitled Never Stop: Revolutionary Tactics in a Postmodern, Pansexual Society. Scheduled to take place on April 22 and 23 at the University of California, Santa Cruz, Never Stop will be kicked off by a special keynote address from Venus Iceberg X of NYC’s Ghe20 Gothik party. Says Davis, "Venus X is truly an incredible young woman and a touchstone for her entire generation. During my time working with the Black Panthers, the Communist party, and various other political movements, we certainly struck some blows on behalf of the oppressed masses, but Venus’ pioneering usage of hardstyle, screwed Top 40, YouTube rips, and animated GIFs is truly sticking it to ‘The Man’ and taking the struggle to another level."

Venus X was similarly effusive in her praise of Davis. "Angela Davis is, like, mad cool. She was the founding member of the #BadGirlsClub, ya know? I also heard she totally loves vogue house." As for the content of her upcoming speech, Venus said that she plans to tackle a variety of issues. "I already STR8 blew up the spot on Diplo a.k.a. Columbus Part II on Twitter, so U know I’m not about 2 hold back. #GAMECHANGER. I might be broke because of all the str8, white, imperialist, racist, and sexist pieces of shit out there, but the system can’t silence me anymore. Thanks 2 me and my crew, ppl are finally starting to #WAKEUP."

Plans for the keynote address to be livestreamed by the FADER were still being confirmed at press time.
